HAVANA (AP) — Cuba is lowering prices for bulk purchases of some goods to support newly independent workers and small businesses.
The measure addresses a central complaint by many operators of private restaurants and cafeterias. Those are businesses authorized under a wide-ranging economic overhaul launched last year by President Raul Castro.
An article in official labor newspaper Trabajadores says prices are dropping for things like cooking oil, tomato pure, marmalade and mayonnaise.
It said Monday that the policy aims to "enhance sales to independent workers."
