TRIADELPHIA, W.Va. (AP) — Six coal miners have been injured in a train derailment in West Virginia.
Wheeling-Ohio County Emergency Management Agency director Lou Vargo says the accident occurred Saturday evening at the Tunnel Ridge Mine in Triadelphia. The miners were transported by ambulance to Ohio Valley Medical Center in Wheeling. Nursing supervisor Debbie Azallion tells The Intelligencer that one miner had a broken leg, but all were expected to be OK.
Vargo says he doesn't know why the train jumped its tracks.
Some underground coal mining has been going on at Tunnel Ridge since last March. The mine is owned by Alliance Resource Partners of Tulsa, Okla..
