Worker at Hanford waste plant project dies

RICHLAND, Wash. (AP) — A 67-year-old ironworker who collapsed at a Hanford nuclear reservation waste plant construction project has died.

The Tri-City Herald reports (http://bit.ly/sG00YK ) that Andrew Hrebeniuk was found unresponsive Monday in one of the site's restroom trailers minutes before the 6 a.m. start of the work shift.

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation was started, and he was taken by ambulance to Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland, Wash., but he could not be revived.

The nuclear waste treatment plant is being built to convert highly radioactive waste into a safe form for permanent disposal.
