TAIPEI, Taiwan - Taiwan's exports rose just 1.3 per cent in November from a year earlier as foreign demand for the island's mainstay electronics waned.
The Finance Ministry said Thursday that exports for the month totalled $24.7 billion. That was down nearly 9 per cent when compared with October. Growth in exports for the first 11 months of the year was 13 per cent.
Imports for November fell 10 per cent to $21.5 billion from a year earlier as industries cut capital spending amid the global economic downturn.
Exports to China and Hong Kong totalled $9.6 billion in November, down 9.5 per cent from October.
Southeast Asian countries came in second, accounting for purchases of $4.6 billion of goods in November.
The U.S. came in third at $2.8 billion. That was down 13 per cent from October.
