Sunwing Airlines' pilot union merges with Canadian Auto Workers

By The Canadian Press  | January 31, 2012

TORONTO - The union representing pilots at Sunwing Airlines Inc. has merged with the Canadian Auto Workers union.

Sunpac said Tuesday that its 150 members will join the CAW's membership, which includes about 12,000 airline workers, some at Air Canada (TSX:AC.A), as well as mechanics, airline catering, cargo and crew schedulers.

"The CAW's considerable experience in the aerospace and airline sector was a key factor in our decision to join with CAW Canada and we look forward to utilizing the services now available to us," said Sunpac president Dave Matkovich.

Sunwing Airlines operates more than 21 aircraft and is part of The Sunwing Travel Group.
