BOUCHERVILLE, Que. - Strateco Resources Inc. (TSX:RSC) said Friday it has received environmental regulatory approval for its Matoush uranium exploration project in northern Quebec.
The company, based in Boucherville, Que., said positive decisions have come from both the federal minister of the environment and the federal administrator of the James Bay and Northern Quebec Agreement.
"Since the beginning of this process, Strateco has carried out extensive, rigorous studies to ensure that the environment is protected during Matoush project development," the company said in a statement.
"The favourable decisions from the federal Minister of the Environment and the federal administrator therefore mark the end of a critical stage in the licencing process."
The project, in the Otish Mountains about 275 kilometres northeast of Chibougamau, "is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects," Environment Minister Peter Kent said in a statement.
Strateco signed a communication agreement with the Cree Nation of Mistissini covering the project in December.
