WALHALLA, N.D. (AP) — Workers at the ethanol plant in Walhalla are pondering an uncertain future.
Archer Daniels Midland Co. is closing the plant in April, ending 61 jobs. The agribusiness conglomerate says the Walhalla plant isn't profitable enough because of its size and location, though it might be used for a different purpose in the future.
Forty-six-year-old employee Flint Huffman tells the Grand Forks Herald (http://bit.ly/wgQb6M ) that he's "stunned" by the news. He says he's got a family to support and might have to move.
Mayor Chris Jackson says the plant closure will hurt other businesses in the city of 1,000 people. He says it will be tough, and "there's fear."
The closure will leave the region with no more ethanol plants. A plant in Grafton closed in 2007.
