By The Canadian Press  | February 21, 2012

YELLOWKNIFE - Discovery Air (TSX:DA.A) is expanding into British Columbia with the purchase of Northern Air Support, a profitable helicopter charter company serving mining, forestry and petroleum seismic clients in Western Canada.

Terms of the purchase by Discovery Air subsidiary Great Slave Helicopters Ltd. were not disclosed. However, Northern Air will continue to operate independently under its current management.

"We are very excited about being a part of the Discovery Air team," NAS president Mark McGowan said in a release. "The opportunity to be part of a larger organization with a more diverse fleet mix, combined with their international operations, will be very beneficial to NAS."

GSH president Jeff Denomme said his company has looking for a partner in the B.C. market for some time.

"Their team is excellent and their operations are very highly regarded in the industry. We are really looking forward to working with them."

Discovery Air Inc. is a Canadian specialty aviation company with some 850 employees and more than 150 helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft providing airborne training to the Canadian military as well as airborne fire services, air charter services and logistics support along with a range of maintenance, engineering and certification services.
