Who's responsible for costly cleanup of Fox River?

MILWAUKEE (AP) — A federal trial in Milwaukee has several paper companies arguing over which firms are responsible for cleaning up the Fox River contaminated decades ago by discharges from the papermaking process.

Appleton Papers Inc. and NCR Corp. say they can't be held solely responsible for the expensive cleanup because other paper companies bought scrap paper from them and used it to make recycled paper, a process that discharged PCB contaminants into the river. But, Georgia-Pacific and other area paper companies say Appleton Papers and NCR arranged for them to dispose of the PCB waste and should be solely responsible. The case was moved from Green Bay to Milwaukee because more than 30 lawyers are involved.

The Green Bay Press-Gazette says (http://post.cr/wpTObA) says the cleanup is expected to cost at least $750 million.
