Honda names new research chief for Americas

By AP  | February 23, 2012

TORRANCE, California (AP) — Honda Motor Co. says it has named a new head of research and development for the Americas.

The company says Erik Berkman will become the new president of Honda R&D Americas on April 1. He will be responsible for all design and product development. The Japanese automaker says it has developed more than 20 models in the U.S. since 1991.

Berkman will replace Hiroshi Takemura, who will return to Japan as deputy director of automobile operations.

Berkman has worked at Honda since 1982. He is now vice president of corporate planning and logistics in the Americas.

The company also says American Honda President Tetsuo Iwamura will be promoted to executive vice president and executive officer of Honda on April 1. He'll continue to lead in the Americas.
