ST. JOHN’S, N.L. – Air Canada (TSX:AC.A) has announced it is resuming year-round direct flight service from St. John’s, N.L., to London.

The company quashed the service in September 2006, citing a lack of profit, though it later launched a seasonal service.

Susan Sullivan, the innovation, business and rural development minister for Newfoundland and Labrador, says the service will boost the tourism sector and strengthen the province’s access to European markets.

Keith Collins, the CEO of the St. John’s International Airport Authority, says having the service outside of the peak travel summer season will accommodate a growing demand for business travel.

The flights will depart three times a week for Heathrow Airport beginning Oct. 26.
