VANSCOY, Sask. – A manager at the Agrium Vanscoy potash mine says no one has been hurt and operations have returned to normal after a report of underground smoke.
Todd Steen says when the report came in Wednesday afternoon, the emergency alarm system was activated and workers headed to their refuge stations.
Steen says mine rescue teams were sent underground to see if they could find the source of the smoke, and determined there was no fire.
He says, however, it appears there was a small amount of smoke and they will have to dig a little further to find the source.
He says the workers have been let out of the refuge stations and are on their way back to the surface, and the next shift will be on the job as usual.
