WASHINGTON – Amtrak is cancelling some of its trains and modifying the schedules for others because of the winter storm that’s battering the Northeast and the South.

Acela Express trains between Washington and Boston, Northeast Regional trains between Boston and Norfolk, Va., Keystone Service between New York and Harrisburg, Pa., and Empire Service between New York and Albany, N.Y., are operating at reduced frequency or modified schedules Thursday.

Amtrak has cancelled Auto Train, Crescent, Carolinian, Palmetto and Piedmont trains. The Silver Meteor is cancelled from New York to Miami and the Silver Star will operate south from Jacksonville, Fla.

Amtrak says it is contacting customers and changing reservations.
