Boehner and state officials see problems with Senate jobless bill

House Speaker John Boehner (BAY’-nur) says Senate legislation to renew benefits for the long-term unemployed is unworkable, and his aides are circulating a letter from state officials detailing difficulties they would encounter in administering the measure.

Boehner did not say flatly that the House would not vote on the bill if it cleared the Senate. A blog posting by his aides on Wednesday quoted him as saying there was no evidence that the bill he says is being rammed through the Senate by Majority Leader Harry Reid would help create more private sector jobs.

Reid spokesman Adam Jentleson says the bill is a bipartisan compromise and concerns that state officials have can be resolved. He says the bill’s supporters look forward to Boehner helping to find solutions.
