Ford US sales drop 1 per cent in April as cars, Lincoln brand falter


DETROIT – Ford Motor Co. says its April U.S. sales fell 1 per cent as small-car sales sputtered and the Lincoln brand stumbled.

The company says it sold just over 204,000 cars and trucks for the month, below the expected industrywide increase of around 9 per cent.

Ford says its car sales fell 9 per cent while trucks rose 8 per cent. Focus small car sales dropped 15 per cent, while the C-Max hybrid dropped more than 40 per cent. But sales of the F-Series pickup, the most popular vehicle in the nation, rose 7.4 per cent.

Sales of the Lincoln luxury brand were down 11 per cent, while Ford brand sales were down slightly.

The company said its sales to rental car companies fell 24 per cent.
