Goldcorp stops work at Los Filos mine after failing to renew occupancy deal

VANCOUVER – Goldcorp Inc. (TSX:G) says it has stopped work at its Los Filos mine in Mexico after it failed to renew an occupancy agreement that expired on March 31.

The company said it is continuing talks with the Carrizalillo Ejido landowners group in an attempt to reach a new deal.

The gold miner said the mine employs more than 2,600 people.

The Los Filos operation has been in operation since 2007 and produced 340,400 ounces in 2012.

The project consists of two open-pit mines and one underground mine.
