A modest gain for the stock market on Wednesday tugged the Dow Jones industrial average back into the black for the year as investors set aside concerns about Ukraine, Iraq and earnings, at least for a day. Amazon led the gains in light trading, despite a mixed batch of economic and corporate news.
The Dow Jones industrial average rose 91.26 points, or 0.6 per cent, to 16,651.80.
The Standard & Poor’s 500 index rose 12.97 points, or 0.7 per cent, to end at 1,946.72
The Nasdaq composite rose 44.87 points, or 1 per cent, to 4,434.13.
For the week:
The Dow is up 97.87 points, or 0.6 per cent.
The S&P 500 is up 15.13 points, or 0.8 per cent.
The Nasdaq is up 63.23 points, or 1.5 per cent.
For the year:
The Dow is up 75.14 points, or 0.5 per cent.
The S&P 500 index is up 98.36 points, or 5.3 per cent.
The Nasdaq is up 257.54 points, or 6.2 per cent.
