OTTAWA – Canada’s national annual inflation rate was 1.2 per cent in December, Statistics Canada says. The agency also released year-over-year rates for major cities, but cautioned that figures may fluctuate widely because they are based on small statistical samples (Previous month in brackets):

— St. John’s, N.L., 2.4 (2.2)

— Charlottetown-Summerside, 2.9 (2.6)

— Halifax, 1.4 (1.0)

— Saint John, N.B., 1.6 (1.1)

— Quebec, 0.8 (0.5)

— Montreal, 0.9 (0.7)

— Ottawa, 1.3 (0.9)

— Toronto, 1.6 (1.3)

— Thunder Bay, Ont., 1.7 (1.1)

— Winnipeg, 2.1 (2.4)

— Regina, 2.5 (1.7)

— Saskatoon, 1.9 (1.0)

— Edmonton, 1.5 (1.3)

— Calgary, 2.6 (2.1)

— Vancouver, 0.2 (0.1)

— Victoria, 0.0 (-0.3)
