BUTTE, Mont. – U.S. Sen. Max Baucus says his bipartisan effort to reform the nation’s tax code helped attract some of the business world’s biggest names to his jobs forum in Montana.
Baucus opened the Montana Jobs Summit in Butte on Monday with the leaders of companies like Google, Facebook, Ford and Boeing.
The veteran Democrat says he’s discussing with the corporate leaders his longshot bipartisan effort to revamp the tax code.
Baucus says the CEOs agree with the mission to reduce tax rates while eliminating some exemptions.
He says FedEx CEO Fred Smith “compared notes” with him on the effort. Baucus says both agreed revamping the code will make the country more competitive.
Montana billionaire industrialist Dennis Washington, the first businessman on the stage, told Baucus the business community is behind him.
