U.S. stocks are opening slightly higher, a day after the Standard & Poor’s 500 index had its first close above 2,000 points.
Tiffany & Co. rose 4 per cent after the jewelry company reported earnings that were well ahead of what analysts were expecting.
The S&P 500 edged up a point to 2,001 as of 9:35 a.m. Wednesday.
The Dow Jones industrial average rose 20 points, or 0.1 per cent, to 17,127. The Nasdaq composite index rose four points, or 0.1 per cent, to 4,574.
European markets were also slightly higher. Germany’s DAX gained 0.1 per cent and France’s CAC-40 rose 0.2 per cent.
Bond prices rose. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note fell to 2.37 per cent.
