IT IS A CASE OF ENVIRONMENTAL DESTRUCTION OF HUGE PROPORTIONS. TEXACO AND CHEVRON IN TURN HAVE REFUSED TO REMEDY THE DAMAGE CAUSED. MORE THAN 30 YEARS HAVE GONE BY AND IT SEEMS THAT THE WORLDWIDE STRANGLEHOLD THAT OIL MONOPOLIES HAVE ON SMALL COUNTRIES IS EVERLASTING. THIS IS NOT ONLY A MATTER OF JUSTICE.
How many times does it take failure, if not catastrophe, to prove Governments shouldn't intervene in markets to equalise outcomes (or even worse, pick winners and losers). The least economically developed areas will always be hardest hit in a downturn, and share less in an upturn. There are many reasons why they may be disadvantaged, but having a high tax regime (hello Quebec) is first among them. Rather than look for ways to rig the rules to benefit them, Provincial and Municipal governments would be better on focusing on ways to build growth, and therefore demand. Demand is the ultimate mattress for if not a soft landing, then a quicker recovery.

The reason why mortgages are uniform is because of mortgage backed securities guaranteed by the government of Canada. All mortgages issued within a certain timeframe are bundled with no regional variation. the risk for the security is assumed by the Federal taxpayer averaged over the entire Canadian market pool. We do not have Toronto or Vancouver securities. The bundling is facilitated by our relatively homogenized product across the country.
I am a firm believer that when it comes to politics/government, and business, there should always be separation. The only thing that should govern business is the economy, not the government.
CEO's too should stay out of governmental issues.
It seems that every time the two mingle, bad things happen. Expressing an opinion is one thing, but to try and do something about it is a complete mistake.

The most telling sentence in James Cowan's piece is this one: "Lack of clarity is now doing more damage than new regulations could."

"Lack of clarity" is just a polite way of saying "lack of honesty." Fudging the truth is the default setting for government and corporations -- always has been, always will be.

Good for Louis Audet that he spoke up. But let's not nominate him for sainthood just yet. The realist in me thinks he did the math -- counting the votes of federalist and Pequiste directors on Cogeco's board and looking long and hard at the political leanings of its customer base -- before walking out on this limb.

An even more cynical view would be that M Audet foresaw Pierre Karl Peladeau's entry in Quebec politics as a PQ candidate and realized he and Cogeco could make hay with it.

Let's just call this a case of enlightened self-interest, and nothing more.

Do you really think the average HHI $50,000 Canadian -- the majority of electors -- believe that Audet and the $1 Million+ CEOs in his pay grade are looking out for anyone's interests but their own?

Smack yourselves upside the head, homies.

This article talks about the difference between American and Canadian CEOs on speaking about their political views. The American experience is a perfect example of why they should not speak out. Since the Citizens United court ruling, Americans have seen billionaires like the Koch brothers, and Adelson try to buy elections. Many businesses tried to intimidate their employees into voting Republican (such as when one mining company forced its employees to attend a Romney rally and donate to his presidential campaign). Now, it's beginning to backfire. In the midterms, the Democrats are rightly campaigning as much against those big money campaigners as the Republicans, starting a campaign called "Addicted to Koch"

You know, when you read about Ford Canada's comments and whining, you have to wonder how a union boss could be so self centered in his comments about this trade deal. Yes, 95% of industries benefit, yes, new industries and companies will now be able to supply not only south Korea but through SK, most of Asia. And yes, the agriculture industry benefits tremendously and so does the aerospace and and industries and this union boss is whimpering in his gloom.
How narcissistic is that?
Grow up Union Man and get into the 21st Century for God's sake.
This is going to be great for so many aspects of our Canadian economy, it beggars the imagination. Just like the to be ratified EU deal.
Get over it Union Man, it's a global economy.

Google it/ My Equinox 2008 scared me so much that I thought each day I prayed I wouldn't die or sustain severe injuries each day when I got into it. I brought the automobile used at a large dealership. I had to return it to the dealership x4 less than 6 months/ When I drove it I would never know if I would become a high speed uncontrollable torpedo heading toward ? My Equinox for no reason would just stop at high speeds, low speeds it didn't matter. The scary part was the brakes would then become a hard brick with inability to steer, no brakes to stop. Each ti,me the dealership would take it for a drive unable to find what was wrong including the manager getting stuck but still unable to find the problem they even called GM. I finally gave up after the 4th time. I wanted to live!

Unions exist to protect workers and do not necessarily increase the cost of the end product. Many long term Toyota workers earn more than GM or other auto workers, however wages are not always worth the other sacrifices that must be made, the wages paid to an auto worker add less than 7 per cent to the average cost of a car. The bonuses and premiums paid to the shareholders and senior executives add more than 20 percent. Maybe wage cuts should be made at the top??

I hate this car.d. My first time signing up, I noticed I wasn't rewarded any points, and had spent a bundle on the Items which I would get Points for. I called Customer Service from Loblaws, and the CSR Agent told me the Points Card would be on MY PC Bank Card, and not the PC Points Card... since I was already a member with PC Banks..... sounded weird... but that first time, I did get a lot of points for my purchases.
I always load my Points before I go to Shop, so they should be ready.

Since then I figured everything would go smoothly. Each transaction I've made, I've noticed the following problems:
- The points don't show up on my receipt for which Items earned me points, the Cashier's seem a bit clueless about the whole matter (I think they are forced to promote it, but know it's a bit of a scam.)
- Anyways, about 10 diligent Shops dedicated to earning points, the total points I've earned: 0
- I can review my 'past transactions', and although I've been purchasing the products to earn me points, nothing has shown up on my card.

Overall, it's a waste of time and money. Even if I do get my points now by complaining, was the hassle worth it?

The Toyota brand barely justifies the premium currently charged on their vehicles and any increase in price will definitely impact demand. Lower demand = job cuts or actions to minimize costs. Seems that the employees are being treated quite well at Toyota and perhaps before the make any decision on unions they should investigate alternative employment available to Canadians just in case they find themselves in the job market as a result of their decision. I am reminded of the fairy tale with a lady (union) that lives in a gingerbread house, going in seems like a great idea to the brother and sister outside (Toyota employees), who doesn’t want all you can eat candy…you know how it ends.

I know Hudak doesn't like the Liberals, but I never really thought he'd go so far as to destroy his own party just to ensure the NDP could beat the Liberals .... At least, that's the only rational explanation I can put on his behaviour and comments, which seem to contradict even Harper's own views.

Given that low-income people seem to be the biggest users of such establishments, one does wonder where they will acquire the necessary income to use the establishment. Indeed, why not just go the extra step and have a robot in the home to make the food, so I don't even need to leave the home. And my robot can do my work. Likely it can type up these comments. I expect in the near future, humanity will no longer be necessary to help robots reproduce, at which point we will be happily redundant. I hope you all look forward to living on Asimov's Solaria.

Isn't Sears dead yet? I gave up on them nearly a decade ago after the stove they sold me died within a few years. Sears used to sell quality. They stopped. So I stopped. They will die. I will buy elsewhere.
