Methodology

A total of 236 Canadian employers were assessed this year as part of Aon’s Best Employers in Canada studies. Employees at participating firms are surveyed on engagement (whether they feel motivated at work), performance culture (whether success is rewarded), leadership (whether executives treat their team as valued assets) and employment brand (whether they are proud to work at the company). The results of the survey are assessed against Aon Hewitt’s Canadian Survey Database, which includes opinions of over 625,000 Canadian workers across more than 600 organizations. Organizations that scored in the top 25% of the Canadian database achieved the Platinum Level, while those scoring in the top third achieved Gold level. According to Aon Hewitt’s definition, employees are engaged when they “say, stay and strive”: They speak positively about their employer to others, are committed to staying with their current employer and are motivated by their organization’s leaders and culture to go above and beyond to contribute to business success. On average, 80% of employees were engaged at Platinum Level Best employers this year. At the Gold Level, 72% of employees were engaged.

  1. nice metric as long as you have a job there. there is no longer guaranteed long term till you retire employment for many. very unsettling. will create a worried society. and that is if you can get a good job in the first place.

  3. Noticed no healthcare organisations here. Private homecare are crooks.

  4. Well and good. Now how about an article about the best jobs available for the middle class – reasonable. not necessarily the best paying, but reasonable for the work required. Why so much emphasis on top paying, social climbing, status symbolic jobs, especially at this time of economic instability?

  5. Don’t forget the Non-Profit Sector. I was “outplaced” at age 50 by a major Canadian company after 25 years but after taking government sponsored computer training in Microsoft Office, I landed an entry-level job at less than half my former salary. It introduced me to a sector of our society I knew little about and loved every minute of it. So different from the “for profit” world.
