Eric Sprott School of Business at Carleton University
Renamed: April 2001
Donation: $10 million
Eric Sprott is already an unwitting mentor to Canadian investors who aspire to attain his billionaire status, with two blogs devoted to gleaning insights from his manouvres. Sprott-watchers might be better served attending the educational institution he credits for his success .
"It is a tremendous pleasure for me to support my alma mater," said Sprott in 2001, when he made the donation that resulted in the moniker change. "I believe it makes sense to give back to your university, and I have always been thankful for the excellent education I received at Carleton.
“Carleton's School of Business has a reputation for producing some of Canada's top business leaders -- and I am pleased to be able to contribute to its continued development."
The canny investor isn’t shy about spending his wealth, with Sprott Asset Management’s Office festooned with art and rare artifacts that invoke the firm’s accomplishments.
