NORTH BAY, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Nov. 6, 2009) - Children's Aid Society workers in Burk's Falls, Parry Sound and North Bay will be reaching out to the public on Monday, November 09, as part of their effort to improve conditions at the Nipissing & Parry Sound Children's Aid Society without a strike that they say management is trying to provoke.

"We'll be on the sidewalk in Burk's Falls, Parry Sound and North Bay on Monday to tell residents they can help at-risk kids by helping us improve conditions at the Children's Aid Society without strike," CUPE National Representative Fran Ludwick said today.

CUPE Local 2049 members will be handing out information flyers in front of three Children's Aid Society locations at 4:30pm, Monday November 09, as area residents head home from work.

"Children's Aid Managers are trying to balance their budget by provoking an unnecessary strike when the responsible thing would be working with staff to pressure the government to provide better funding for protecting at risk children," said Ludwick.

CUPE says that because of the employer's initiative, a Ministry of Labour determined strike/lockout date has been set for midnight November 10.

CUPE Local 2049 represents 125 front line workers, closed custody facility workers and support staff at Nipissing and Parry Sound Children's Aid Society with offices in North Bay, Parry Sound and Burks Falls.
