Last time, it was Kobe Bryant and Jimmy Kimmel. Now, just ahead of what will probably be another record-selling release for Activision’s Call of Duty franchise, Hollywood stars Sam Worthington and Jonah Hill play their version of the tag line “There’s a soldier in all of us” in this spot by agency 72andSunny, directed by Peter Berg.
Worthington, known for his action chops and penchant for blue people, plays the vet while Hill, better known for f-bombs than real ones, is the n00b (that’s beginner in gamerspeak, you n00b). It also looks like the slight controversy that went Bryant’s way during the Black Ops campaign didn’t matter to Dwight Howard, as we see the Orlando Magic star in a brief but no less awesome cameo.
Howard wasn’t the only one not intimidated by potential controversy. Chrysler just launched a $10-million ad campaign for its 2012 Wrangler Call of Duty: MW3 Special Edition vehicle.
Why take the risk? Well, Call of Duty: Black Ops, the most recent version of the game, released in November 2010, might have something to do with it. That game sold 4.7-million copies in its first 24 hours and 20 million copies worldwide over the next eight months.
