Agrium beats 4Q earnings expectations, misses revenue forecasts

CALGARY – CALGARY, Alberta (AP) _ Agrium Inc. (AGU) on Tuesday reported fourth-quarter earnings of $201 million.

On a per-share basis, the Calgary, Alberta-based company said it had profit of $1.45. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, were $1.52 per share.

The results beat Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of six analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.40 per share.

The agricultural products and services company posted revenue of $2.41 billion in the period, missing Street forecasts. Four analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $2.93 billion.

For the year, the company reported profit of $988 million, or $6.98 per share. Revenue was reported as $14.8 billion.

Agrium expects full-year earnings to be $5.50 to $7 per share.

Agrium shares have dropped 6 per cent since the beginning of the year. The stock has fallen 20 per cent in the last 12 months.
