EDMONTON – Alberta’s official Opposition says Premier Alison Redford is on track to run up a provincial debt that will take 85 years to pay off.
Wildrose Leader Danielle Smith says Redford’s government has released few details on how it plans to pay back the $17 billion it will borrow over the next three years for infrastructure.
The budget tabled last week promises a minimum $40-million payment this year escalating to $205 million by 2016.
Smith says at that rate the debt won’t be paid off until close to the end of the century.
Smith asked Redford about her math in the house during question period.
Redford replied that the answer will come in a year with new roads, schools, hospitals, family-care clinics and irrigation systems.
