BOSTON – Boston College says several students, including at least eight members of the men’s basketball team, complained of gastrointestinal symptoms after eating at a Chipotle restaurant in Boston.
The college says it has notified the state Department of Public Health, which is trying to determine if the illnesses are related to a national outbreak of e-coli that’s been linked to the Chipotle chain. There have been no confirmed cases in Massachusetts.
A spokesman for the state agency says more than 20 students were sickened, but officials have not yet determined the cause.
Chris Arnold, a spokesman for the Denver-based chain, says the company has temporarily closed the Boston restaurant while the illnesses are investigated. But he adds that Chipotle has no evidence to suggest they are related to the previous cases.
