Campus sleeper: hotel to go up at University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon

SASKATOON – Plans have been announced for a hotel on the University of Saskatchewan campus.

The university has signed a long-term land lease agreement with Saskatoon-based P.R. Hotels Ltd.

The 203-room, 10-storey development is to sit on the university’s College Quarter land.

A Holiday Inn Express wing is planned with 117 mid- to upper-scale rooms and a Staybridge Suites unit will include kitchen facilities in each of its 86 rooms.

P.R. Hotels says construction is to begin the middle of next year and be finished by 2016.

There’s been talk of a hotel since 2010 when the university released a master plan that included new student residences, retail spaces and a hockey rink on the College Quarter land.
