Child fatally struck by public transit bus in Rhode Island less than half mile from Statehouse

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Authorities say a child has died after being struck by a public transit bus in Rhode Island less than half a mile from the Statehouse.

Police say the girl was hit by the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority bus at around 8: 30 a.m. Thursday near a gas station in Providence.

The girl died from her injuries at a hospital. Her name and age were not released.

RIPTA spokeswoman Barbara Polichetti says the agency is co-operating with police.

Police say no charges have been filed and the investigation is ongoing. They did not release further details.
