Philadelphia Inquirer co-owner attended event at Doris Kearns Goodwin's home before jet crash

BEDFORD, Mass. – A representative for Doris Kearns Goodwin says Philadelphia Inquirer co-owner Lewis Katz attended an event at her home shortly before he and six others died in a plane crash.

The representative says the event Saturday was to support an education initiative involving one of her sons.

Katz was among seven killed Saturday night when a private jet crashed and caught fire as it attempted to take off from Hanscom Field outside Boston on its way to Atlantic City, New Jersey. There were no survivors.

The other victims include Anne Leeds, Katz’s neighbour from Longport, New Jersey. Her husband says Leeds had been invited Saturday to attend the event in Concord, Massachusetts.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the cause of the crash.
