Food workers at Loblaw's Manitoba stores bite hard on new contract

WINNIPEG – Thousands of unionized workers at Superstore and Extra Foods outlets in Manitoba have voted overwhelmingly in favour of a new contract.

Members of the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 832 voted Sunday for a five-year package that calls for a wage increase of 13 per cent over the life of the deal.

There will also be an increase in full-time jobs and more guaranteed work hours.

The agreement will also save more than 400 jobs at Extra Foods.

The previous contract expired late last month.

The UFCW represents 3,000 employees in seven Manitoba cities. (CJOB)
