Ford US sales up 11 per cent in 2013; December sales up 2 per cent

DETROIT – Ford’s U.S. sales jumped 11 per cent in 2013 to nearly 2.5 million — a six-year high — as a stronger economy boosted pickup truck sales.

The Dearborn, MIch., company sold 763,402 F-Series pickups last year, up 18 per cent over 2012. One in every three vehicles Ford sold in the U.S. was an F-Series.

Ford also said it saw record annual sales for the Fusion sedan, Escape SUV and Fiesta subcompact.

Sales of Ford’s Lincoln luxury brand were flat for the year. Sales of the new MKZ sedan, which went on sale last spring, were up 15 per cent, but most other Lincoln vehicles lost sales.

In December, which is often a strong month for luxury sales, MKZ sales jumped 73 per cent. Ford’s U.S. sales were up 2 per cent for the month.
