Stocks rebounded on Monday from a big sell-off on Friday. Gains were led by industrials and technology companies. The market had slumped on Friday after a strong jobs report boosted expectations that the Federal Reserve would raise interest rates as early as June.
On Monday:
The Dow Jones industrial average rose 138.94 points, or 0.8 per cent, to 17,995.72.
The Standard & Poor’s 500 index gained 8.17 points, or 0.4 per cent, to 2,079.43.
The Nasdaq composite rose 15.07 points, or 0.3 per cent, to 4,942.44.
For the year:
The Dow is up 172.65 points, or 1 per cent.
The S&P 500 index is up 20.53 points, or 1 per cent.
The Nasdaq is up 206.38 points, or 4.4 per cent.
