U.S. stocks closed broadly higher after Greece reached an agreement with its creditors. Greece’s government still has to pass tax increases, pension cuts and other measures required by its European lenders before it gets new loans.
The Dow Jones industrial average rose 217.27, or 1.2 per cent, to close at 17,977.68.
The Standard & Poor’s 500 index gained 22.98, or 1.1 per cent, to 2,099.60.
The Nasdaq composite gained 73.82, or 1.5 per cent, to 5,071.51.
For the year:
The Dow is up 154.61 points, or 0.9 per cent.
The S&P 500 index is up 40.70 points, or 2 per cent.
The Nasdaq is up 335.46 points, or 7.1 per cent.
