How the Dow Jones industrial average and other major indexes fared on Monday

Raw materials companies led the U.S. stock market to slight declines on Monday. More signs of slowing economic growth in China sent prices for copper and other commodities lower. Trading was light as investors looked ahead to a much-anticipated Federal Reserve meeting later this week.

On Monday:

The Dow Jones industrial average fell 62.13 points, or 0.4 per cent, to 16,370.96.

The Standard & Poor’s 500 index slipped 8.02 points, or 0.4 per cent, to close at 1,953.03.

The Nasdaq composite declined 16.58 points, or 0.3 per cent, to 4,805.76.

For the year:

The Dow is down 1,452.11 points, or 8.2 per cent.

The S&P 500 index is down 105.87 points, or 5.1 per cent.

The Nasdaq is up 69.71 points, or 1.5 per cent.
