How the Dow Jones industrial average and other major indexes fared on Thursday

Stocks dipped Thursday after the U.S. government said economic growth slowed in the third quarter as businesses cut production and drew down their inventories.

For the day:

The Dow Jones industrial average lost 23.72 points, or 0.1 per cent, to 17,755.80.

The Standard & Poor’s 500 index dipped 0.94 point, less than 0.1 per cent, to 2,089.41.

The Nasdaq composite index sank 21.42 points, or 0.4 per cent, to 5,074.27.

For the week:

The Dow Jones industrial average has added 109.10 points, or 0.6 per cent.

The S&P 500 has picked up 14.26 points, or 0.7 per cent.

The Nasdaq has gained 42.41 points, or 0.8 per cent.

For the year:

The Dow is down 67.27 points, or 0.4 per cent.

The S&P is up 30.51 points, or 1.5 per cent.

The Nasdaq is up 338.22 points, or 7.1 per cent.
