The stock market endured its worst day in three weeks on Tuesday as investors fretted over Greece’s debt crisis and a surge in the U.S. dollar. Investors seeking safety bought U.S. government bonds. U.S. markets were closed Monday for the Memorial Day holiday.
The Dow Jones industrial average fell 190.48 points, or 1 per cent, to 18,041.54.
The Standard & Poor’s 500 index closed down 21.86 points, or 1 per cent, to 2,104.20.
The Nasdaq composite lost 56.61 points, or 1.1 per cent, to 5,032.75.

The S&P 500 index is up 45.30 points, or 2.2 per cent.
The Nasdaq is up 296.70 points, or 6.3 per cent.
