Stocks slipped Tuesday after several U.S. companies delivered disappointing results and forecasts. Energy companies followed the price of crude oil lower.
For the day:
The Dow Jones industrial average fell 41.62 points, or 0.2 per cent, to 17,581.43.
The Standard & Poor’s 500 index lost 5.29 points, or 0.3 per cent, to 2,065.89.
The Nasdaq Composite index dipped 4.56 points, or 0.1 per cent, to 5,030.15.
For the week:
The Dow Jones industrial average is down 65.27 points, or 0.4 per cent.
The S&P 500 has lost 9.26 points, or 0.5 per cent.
The Nasdaq is down 1.72 points, or less than 0.1 per cent.
For the year:
The Dow is down 241.64 points, or 1.4 per cent.
The S&P is up 6.99 points, or 0.3 per cent.
The Nasdaq is up 294.09 points, or 6.2 per cent.
