U.S. stocks edged lower on Wednesday, extending losses from a sell-off a day earlier. Investors are nervous about the likelihood of higher U.S. interest rates and the sharp appreciation in the value of the dollar.
The Dow Jones industrial average fell 27.55 points, or 0.2 per cent, to 17,635.39.
The Standard & Poor’s 500 index slipped 3.92 points, or 0.2 per cent, to 2,040.24.
The Nasdaq composite fell 9.85 points, or 0.2 per cent, to 4,849.94.

The Dow is down 221.39 points, or 1.2 per cent.
The S&P 500 index is down 31.02 points, or 1.5 per cent.
The Nasdaq is down 77.43 points, or 1.6 per cent.
For the year:
The Dow is down 187.68 points, or 1.1 per cent.
The S&P 500 index is down 18.66 points, or 0.9 per cent.
The Nasdaq is up 113.89 points, or 2.4 per cent.
