How the Dow Jones industrial average fared on Thursday

NEW YORK, N.Y. – U.S. stocks again ticked higher Thursday as the continuing rebound in oil prices gave energy companies a lift. The gains were modest, however, as investors have been avoiding big moves. The dollar weakened further, and compared to the yen it’s at its lowest in almost three years.

On Thursday:

The Dow Jones industrial average gained 23.76 points, or 0.1 per cent, to 18,597.70.

The Standard & Poor’s 500 gathered 4.80 points, or 0.2 per cent, to 2,187.02.

The Nasdaq composite picked up 11.49 points, or 0.2 per cent, to 5,240.15.

For the week:

The Dow is up 21.23 points, or 0.1 per cent.

The S&P 500 is up 2.97 points, or 0.1 per cent.

The Nasdaq is up 7.25 points, or 0.1 per cent.

For the year:

The Dow is up 1,172.67 points, or 6.7 per cent.

The S&P 500 is up 143.08 points, or 7 per cent.

The Nasdaq is up 232.74 points, or 4.6 per cent.
