How the Dow Jones industrial average fared on Wednesday

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Stocks rose on the seventh anniversary of the bull market on Wednesday as crude oil resumed its climb from a 13-year low. Energy companies increased the most. The gains were broad, with nine of 10 industry sectors of the S&P 500 rising.

On Wednesday:

The Dow Jones industrial average climbed 36.26 points, or 0.2 per cent, to 17,000.36.

The S&P 500 climbed 10 points, or 0.5 per cent, to 1,989.26.

The Nasdaq composite increased 25.55 points, or 0.6 per cent, to 4,674.38.

For the week:

The Dow is down 6.41 points, or less than 0.1 per cent.

The S&P 500 is down 10.73 points, or 0.5 per cent.

The Nasdaq is down 42.64 points, or 0.9 per cent.

For the year:

The Dow is down 424.67 points, or 2.4 per cent.

The S&P 500 is down 54.68 points, or 2.7 per cent.

The Nasdaq is down 333.03 points, or 6.7 per cent.
