Just in time for summer tourism, new weekend rail service begins shoreline run in Conn.

HARTFORD, Conn. – New weekend train service is beginning from New Haven to New London and Old Saybrook.

The Shore Line East is set to start on Saturday.

Connecticut officials say the service, which is operated by the state Department of Transportation, will include 19 weekend and holiday trains, 14 to and from New London and five to and from Old Saybrook. That’s in addition to 30 regular Shore Line East trains on weekdays.

Connecticut officials say the new service will improve visitors’ access to coastline tourist attractions, beaches and parks.
