NEW ORLEANS – Lt. Gov. Jay Dardenne (DAHR-dn) says Louisiana’s Office of Tourism is the second state tourism office to get the industry’s top accreditation.
Nebraska’s state tourism office announced its accreditation early this month.
The accreditation comes from the Washington, D.C.-based Destination Marketing Association International. The association’s program recognizes organizations such as tourism and convention bureaus for efficient work.
It has standards in 16 areas such as marketing, technology, visitor services and destination development.
Dardenne said Monday that it’s a matter of prestige rather than direct return — and comes the same month that Louisiana’s office was named tourism office of the year in the 14-state Southeast Tourism Society.
The national group’s website lists 176 tourism offices and organizations accredited as of July, from Daytona Beach, Fla., to Daejeon, South Korea.
