AURORA, Ont. – Magna International Inc. (TSX:MG) says it will open a new seating manufacturing plant in Taizhou, China to supply Geely’s Volvo Car Group.
The Aurora, Ont.- based auto parts giant says construction is already underway on the 5,200-square-metre facility and it is set to be completed by mid-year.
Magna says the site will produce complete seating systems for a small crossover utility vehicle and is expected to create up to 90 new jobs.
Taizhou marks the fifth manufacturing facility for Magna Seating and the 33rd overall for Magna in China, the world’s largest automotive market.
Magna is Canada’s largest auto parts companies and one of the largest in the world.
It currently has more than 300 manufacturing operations and 84 product development, engineering and sales centres in 28 countries.
“This new facility helps us support a new customer and expands our footprint in China, both of which are key to growing our global seating business,” said Magna Seating president Mike Bisson in a statement.
