TORONTO – Some of the most active companies traded Wednesday on the Toronto Stock Exchange and the TSX Venture Exchange:

Toronto Stock Exchange (11,913.87, up 65.12 points):

Progress Energy Resources Corp. (TSX:PRQ). Oil and gas. Unchanged at $20.08 on 5,411,411 shares.

Extendicare REIT (TSX:EXE.UN). Real estate. Down 21 cents, or 2.8 per cent, at $7.28 on 4,549,402 shares.

Avion Gold Corp. (TSX:AVR). Miner. Up 9.5 cents, or 21.35 per cent, at 54 cents on 4,357,315 shares. Avion says improved political stability in Mali and the prospect of democratic elections following a military coup will allow the company to resume a mill expansion at the Tabakoto mine late this year or early in 2013.

Research In Motion Ltd. (TSX:RIM). Consumer technology. Unchanged at $7.44 on 2,716,432 shares.

Viterra Inc. (TSX:VT). Grain-handler. Down 10 cents, or 0.62 per cent, at $16.10 on 2,565,818 shares.

Eastern Platinum Ltd. (TSX:ELR). Miner. Down one cent, or 4.17 per cent, at 23 cents, on 2,363,050 shares.

TSX Venture Exchange (1,241.9, up 16.4 points):

Barkerville Gold Mines Ltd. (TSXV:BGM). Miner. Down 13 cents, or 10.66 per cent, at $1.09 on 6,154,060 shares.

Oro Mining Ltd. (TSXV:OGR). Miner. Up 0.5 cents, or 4.76 per cent, at 11 cents on 2,785,000 shares.

TMX Group (TSX:X). Stock exchange. Up $1.56, or 3.33 per cent, at $48.41 on 910,189 shares. The takeover of the operator of Canada’s major stock exchanges cleared a pair of key regulatory hurdles on Wednesday. The Competition Bureau said it will not challenge the proposed takeover of the TMX Group by the Maple Group Acquisition Corp.
