Toronto Stock Exchange (12,499.47 up 139.31 points):
Manulife Financial Corp. (TSX:MFC). Insurer. Up 50 cents, or 4.12 per cent, at $12.64 on 9,369,563 shares. The financial sector was up 0.97 per cent to 181.92 points on the main stock exchange.
Kinross Gold Corp. (TSX:K). Miner. Up 40 cents, or 4.18 per cent, at $9.98 on 6,906,274 shares. The gold sector was the second biggest gainer among the subsectors, rising 2.91 per cent to 346.53 points, as price of the bullion rose 60 cents US to $1,772.70 per ounce on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
Bombardier Inc. (TSX:BBD.B). Transportation equipment. Down a penny, or 0.26 per cent, at $3.79 on 6,723,578 shares. Major components of the plane and train maker’s first CSeries test flight vehicle are scheduled to arrive in Quebec at the end of this month.
Suncor Energy Inc. (TSX:SU). Oil and gas. Up $1.14, or 3.44 per cent, at $34.32 on 6,212,240 shares. The energy sector was up 1.98 per cent to 272.28 points, as price of the October crude contract rose 69 cents US to $99 per barrel.
Twin Butte Energy Ltd. (TSX:TBE). Oil and gas. Up eight cents, or 2.80 per cent, at $2.94 on 5,669,718 shares. The junior oil and gas company’s stock closed near its highest level this year.
TSX Venture Exchange (1,318.11 up 15.22 points):
ShaMaran Petroleum Corp. (TSXV:SNM). Mining exploration and development. Up 4.5 cents, or 12 per cent, at 42 cents on 26,570,287 shares. ShaMaran’s stock closed at its highest level this year a day after it announced it made an extensive testing program at its Atrush-2 Exploration and Appraisal well in Iraq.
Pinecrest Energy Inc. (TSX:PRY). Oil and gas exploration and development. Up seven cents, or 3.72 per cent, at $1.95 on 5,348,258 shares.

Allied Properties REIT (TSX:AP.UN). Real estate. Down 17 cents, or 0.56 per cent, at $30.33 on 276,090 shares. The Toronto-based real-estate investment trust will buy the Demcor Building and Chamber of Commerce Building for a total of $27.3 million. The two buildings in Calgary will raise Allied’s portfolio to 14 office properties in the area.
Manitoba Telecom Services Inc. (TSX:MBT). Communications. Up 30 cents, or 0.89 per cent, at $33.88 on 519,537 shares. The Winnipeg-based company launched a strategic review Thursday of its Allstream business division, which may mean selling the business.
