Most actively traded companies on the TSX, TSX Venture Exchange markets

TORONTO – Some of the most active companies traded Tuesday on the Toronto Stock Exchange and the TSX Venture Exchange:

Toronto Stock Exchange (12,361.20 up 8.42 points):

Uranium One. (TSX:UUU). Miner. Down five cents, or 2.50 per cent, at $1.95 on 8,601,081 shares. The Toronto-based uranium miner announced Monday that it booked a $61.6 million loss in the third quarter, due to a $79.1 million writedown related to its South Zarechnoye uranium deposit. The loss was a reversal from a year-ago profit of $45.8 million while revenues slipped to $142.6 million from $157.7 million.

North American Palladium Ltd. (TSX:PDL). Oil and gas. Up a penny, or 0.66 per cent, at $1.52 on 6,232,803 shares. The metals producer will release its third-quarter results on Thursday.

Talisman Energy (TSX:TLM). Oil and gas. Down 14 cents, or 1.27 per cent, at $10.92 on 5,068,028 shares. The energy sector dropped 0.14 per cent to 183.68 points.

Penn West Petroleum Ltd. (TSX:PWT). Oil and gas. Down 41 cents, or 3.53 per cent, at $11.19 on 4,915,334 shares. The Calgary-based company’s stock closed to a level not seen since early 2009 after announcing four of its vice-presidents stepped down. The company, which has been restructuring, did not offer an explanation.

Petaquilla Minerals Ltd. (TSX:PTQ). Miner. Down 15 cents, or 23.44 per cent, at 49 cents, 4,760,570 shares. Toronto-based Inmet Mining Corp. (TSX:IMN) failed to win enough support for its hostile takeover bid of Petaquilla. Based on Inmet’s recent share price, its offer for Petaquilla was valued at about $147 million. Inmet’s shares were up 80 cents, or 1.43 per cent, at $56.76 on 386,824 shares.

Bombardier Inc. (TSX:BBD.B). Transportation equipment. Up seven cents, or 1.98 per cent, at $3.61 on 4,726,198 shares. Striking Bombardier railway workers in La Pocatiere, Que., have agreed to return to the bargaining table Wednesday morning at the request of the conciliator. The union representing about 330 employees said it expects Bombardier will present a global offer that could end the strike that started Thursday.

TSX Venture Exchange (1,303.14 up 1.21 points):

Sagres Energy Inc. (TSXV:SGI). Oil and gas explorer. Down half a cent, or 25 per cent, at 1.5 cents on 7,346,383 shares.

Brixton Metals Corp. (TSXV:BBB). Mineral explorer. Unchanged at 20 cents, or 3,797,910 shares.

Companies reporting major news:

Resolute Forest Products (TSX:RFP). Printer. Down four cents, or 0.34 per cent, at $11.64 on 32,900 shares. The newsprint and commercial printing paper maker will lay off about 111 employees as it permanently shuts down a paper machine at its Laurentide mill in Shawinigan, Que. on Nov. 26, citing a drop in demand.

Yellow Media (TSX:YLO). Digital media. Unchanged at 7.5 cents on 2,287,905 shares. The Montreal-based company earned $24 million or four cents per share versus a year-ago loss of $2.8 billion. Revenues fell 17 per cent year over year to $267.7 million as a result of lower print revenues, discontinued directories and the sale of an online classified ad site in November 2011.

Air Canada (TSX:AC.B). Airline. Up 11 cents, or 6.11 per cent at $1.91 on 1,703,640 shares. Air Canada’s shares surged a day after the airline reported good traffic numbers in October and at least one analyst boosted his target price by 39 per cent.
