Nev. governor: People who violated psych hospital policies fired amid alleged patient dumping

CARSON CITY, Nev. – Two staff members who violated discharge policies at a Las Vegas psychiatric hospital were fired Monday and three others are being disciplined following an investigation into busing patients to other states.

The Department of Health and Human Services late Monday said another four people no longer work at Rawson-Neal Psychiatric Hospital.

Gov. Brian Sandoval earlier in the day also announced that his administration is looking for a national expert in the mental health field to review all the state’s facilities “to ensure best practices are being implemented and followed.”

The moves come in the wake of an investigative series by the Sacramento Bee into Nevada giving psychiatric patients one-way bus tickets out of state.

But the state agency says its own review shows 99 per cent of discharges over the past five years show were conducted properly.
