Pharma firm Medicago to build $245-million production complex in Quebec City

QUEBEC – Vaccine-maker Medicago says it’s building a $245 million production complex in Quebec City, where it already has its head office and laboratories.

The company says it has received financial support from all three levels of government, including a $60 million loan from the province and an $8-million loan from Ottawa.

By 2019, Medicago expects to employ 200 people who will work at a 44,000 square metre facility at the Estimauville innovation park, in addition to 180 already in the city.

The company says the new complex will have the capacity to deliver between 40 million and 50 million doses of seasonal flu vaccines and will include its corporate offices and research and development activities.
